New Delhi: An overnight addition of 52,123 positive cases took India’s COVID-19 tally closer to 16 lakh to 15,83,792 on Thursday.
After hovering near the milestone for a week, this is the first time India has reported fresh COVID-19 cases past 50,000, the highest single-day spike so far.
A total of 775 people succumbed to the virus infection in last 24 hours that took the country’s death toll to 34,968, the Union Health Ministry informed.
On a positive note, cumulative recovered cases (10,20,582) have surpassed active cases by 5,00,340.
Also, India’s recovery rate remains at 64.44 per cent. The fatality rate of cases dips a bit to 2.21 per cent and is observed falling progressively, according to a PIB release.
The number of COVID-19 sample testing labs has increased to 1321 including 414 private labs. There are 676 RT-PCR based testing labs, including 264 private labs. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,81,90,382 COVID-19 samples have been tested so far, including 4,46,642 on Sunday.
