Mumbai: In a historic event, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 mini-auction was held in Dubai on December 19, marking the first time an auction took place abroad. The one-day event witnessed a total of 72 players being sold among the 10 participating teams, with a staggering sum of Rs 230 crore spent.

Out of the 332 players up for grabs, only 72 found buyers, highlighting the intense competition and strategic bidding among the teams. Australian pacer Mitchell Starc became the most expensive player in IPL history when the Kolkata Knight Riders acquired him for a whopping Rs 24.75 crore.

The mini-auction also saw several notable purchases, including Pat Cummins (Rs 20.50 crore to Sunrisers Hyderabad), Daryl Mitchell (Rs 14 crore to Chennai Super Kings), Harshal Patel (Rs 11.75 crore to Punjab Kings), and Alzarri Joseph (Rs 10 crore to Royal Challengers Bangalore).
