New Delhi: In a move set to bolster Indo-Australian defence ties, Indian Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi will embark on a four-day official visit to Australia, starting February 16.
The high-level engagement aims to deepen strategic partnerships amid evolving security challenges in the Indo-Pacific region.
During his stay until February 19, General Dwivedi is scheduled to hold comprehensive discussions with his Australian counterpart on modern warfare techniques, multi-domain operations, and enhancing joint military capabilities. Both leaders, alumni of the US Army War College’s 2015 batch, share a strong professional bond that could lead to closer collaboration.
Key agenda items include defence cooperation, modernising forces, future strategies, joint exercises, training programs, professional exchanges, and capacity building. In Sydney, the Indian Army Chief will meet senior officers from Forces Command (FORCOMD), Special Operations Command (SOCOMD), and the 2nd Division – the latter actively involved in bilateral military drills, with the next edition slated for India later this year.
Shifting to Canberra, General Dwivedi will be accorded a formal guard of honour, visit Headquarters Joint Operations Command (HQJOC), pay homage at the Australian War Memorial, and interact with Indian defence veterans residing in Australia. This visit underscores the shared commitment of both nations to fostering peace, stability, and security in the Indo-Pacific.
The trip highlights the growing synergy between the two democracies, promising advancements in multi-faceted military cooperation.
