India Win Champions Trophy For Third Time With Four-Wicket Over New Zealand

Mumbai: India won an amazing four-wicket match over New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. With MS Dhoni as captain, India won their third Champions Trophy, therefore closing a 12-year gap since their last victory in 2013.

Under the direction of skipper Rohit Sharma, India chased 252 runs effortlessly, Captain Sharma personally, with 76 runs, and Shreyas Iyer, with 48 runs added to the team. The Indian triumph was mostly based on an opening performance by Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma, who totalled 105 runs combined. But the loss of the top wickets—that of Gill and Virat Kohli—mounted increasing pressure on the team. Iyer’s innings helped to steady the innings; the turning point came from Hardik Pandya’s 18-run last-over cameo. Additionally, KL Rahul contributed 34 runs.

New Zealand scored 251 runs, while Michael Bracewell chipped in 53 runs on just 40 balls, and Daryl Mitchell scored 63 runs. Aggressive Kiwis set India on alert with their batting towards the last 10 overs, scoring 79 runs.

Along with marking India’s historic triumph, this win resolved a 25-year-old loss to New Zealand in the 2000 Champions Trophy final. Having guided the squad to triumph in the T20 World Cup in 2024, Rohit Sharma is now the second Indian skipper to win back-to-back ICC championships.
