London: Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, became the youngest cricketer to score the fastest 100 in Youth ODI cricket when he scored at a strike rate of 262.07 during India U-19’s fourth match against England U-19 at Worcester on July 5, 2025.

Opening the innings at New Road, Worcester, he powered to 100 in 52 balls to better the previous record, that of Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam, who hit a hundred from 53 balls in 2013. The left-hander’s breathtaking 143 off 78 balls, which was peppered with 10 sixes and 13 fours, lifted India U-19 to a massive 363 for nine in a stipulated 50 overs. His 219-run, fifth-wicket stand with V. Malhotra (129, 121 lb) paved the way for India’s series lead of 2-1, and Malhotra was later dismissed by Sagar Mishra. BV ended his splendid run.

The child genius’ assault got off to a circumspect start but grew increasingly relentless. That took him to fifty in 24 balls and he needed just 28 more to reach his century, doing so because England’s bowlers never had a look in. The historic ran was brought up in the 19th over, with spinner Ralphie Albert leaking a single. Suryavanshi’s 143 was studded with 23 hits to the fence as he scored nearly 90.21% of his runs in boundaries, which reflected his aggressive intent.

Suryavanshi has been outstanding in the series. In the first ODI, the youth version, he had cracked 48 from 19 balls with five sixes. He contributed 45 in the second game and 86 from 31 balls in the third, with nine sixes and six fours, narrowly failing to reach three figures. His 20-ball half-century in that game is the second fastest by an Indian in Youth ODIs -the fastest being Rishabh Pant’s 18-ball effort in 2016. Suryavanshi also has the highest number of sixes among the Indian players in a Youth ODI innings, hitting nine in the third match.

“Suryavanshi is Yuvraj Singh on steroids. I’m not sure I’ve seen better ball-striking than this in England.” This guy is a genius,“a commenter said during his latest knock, as quoted by Hindustan Times. His heroics did not go unnoticed on social media as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) tweeted his 143-run masterclass, which included the fastest Youth ODI hundred.

Suryavanshi’s swift ascent is not unusual. In October 2024 against Australia U-19 he scored a century from just 58 balls in a Youth Test at Chennai, it was the fastest by an Indian in the format and second-fastest overall. In the IPL 2025, in Rajasthan Royals match with Gujarat Titans, he scored 101 not out off 38 balls becoming the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket. He also broke record of Sarfaraz Khan to become youngest Indian to score a century in Youth ODI after achieving the feat at 14 years 32 days.

Suryavanshi leads the run tally in the five-match series with 322 runs from four matches at a strike rate of 213.09. Ahead of the final ODI on July 7, as India U-19 warms up, he becomes the face of a bright future of Indian cricket, earning comparisons already with legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh.
