New Delhi: In a move to improve the accessibility to quality education in the country’s schools, the Central Government has given the light for the setting up of 85 additional Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and 28 fresh Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) on December 6th in the year 2024. This endeavor is supported by a budget allocation of ₹8,231 crore, clearly showcasing the government’s dedication to advancing education.
The formed KVs and JNVs are scheduled for implementation; in the upcoming years, KVs will kickstart in the academic year 2025–26 and continue over eight years; meanwhile, JNVs will be established between 2024–25 and 2028–29.
In the developments regarding Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Jammu and Kashmir is set to have the most additions by opening 13 new schools. With 11 new KVs in Madhya Pradesh and 9 in Rajasthan marking progress in infrastructure expansion across various states.

In the meantime, the addition of 28 JNVs will greatly improve the facilities, especially in the northeastern states.

Rail Minister Ashwin Vaishnav highlighted that the establishment of these institutions aims to accommodate about 100,000 more students and bring about the creation of roughly 6,600 new positions within the field of education. This endeavor is set to stimulate economies and offer prospects to a broader range of people.
As of now, in India there are 1,253 Kendriya Vidyalayas along with 661 Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas under the management of the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti operated by the Ministry of Education. The addition of these schools will bring the number of KVs to 1,338, while JNVs will see an increase, to 689.
The government’s decision to increase resources is a move towards providing quality education to everyone in areas with limited access to it and setting the stage for a brighter future for the young generation of the country.
