New Delhi: A case of white fungus has been detected in a 70-year-old man who was earlier treated for COVID-19 in Uttar Pradesh’s Mau.
This is probably the first case of white fungus infection that has been traced in a Covid-recovered patient in India.
The 70-year-old was treated at a Delhi hospital for COVID-19 back in April and was discharged following his recovery.
The man was consistently on steroids following his recovery from COVID-19. After some time, he developed eye floaters (jelly-like substance inside the eyes) and lost his eyesight, said Dr Kshitij Aditya, a vitreo-retina specialist, who is treating the man said.
“The patient developed eye floaters a week back and suffered from gradual loss of vision. When the case came to me, it looked like endogenous fungal endophthalmitis (eye infection which spreads via blood),” Dr Aditya was quoted as saying by India Today TV.
Following a vitreous biopsy, the white fungus infection was confirmed.
