New Delhi: Making a significant mark on the global stage, India secured the 10th position at the prestigious 48th WorldSkills Competition (WorldSkills Shanghai 2026). Showcasing extraordinary talent and technical prowess, the Indian contingent returned with an impressive haul of six Silver medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence.
This year’s performance is a notable leap for India, which previously ranked 13th at the WorldSkills Lyon 2024. Held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai from September 22 to 27, the six-day international event witnessed the participation of over 1,400 young competitors from around 70 countries and regions.
India fielded its largest-ever contingent for the 2026 edition, with 70 skilled competitors participating across 63 distinct categories. The participants proved their mettle in diverse fields ranging from advanced manufacturing and engineering to digital technology and creative industries.
The six Silver medals were secured by Smriti Nambiar in Bakery, Mohammed Salam in Dental Prosthetics, Kovid Ajay Gangrade in Digital Interactive Media Design, Parth Vohra in Industrial Design Technology, Mehrunissa Begum in Logistics and Freight Forwarding, and Saniya Joshi in Retail Sales. Adding to the nation’s pride, Smriti Nambiar was also honoured with the ‘Best of Nation’ award. The 20 Medallions for Excellence were spread across various technical, industrial, and service sectors.
Showcasing an adapting skill ecosystem, India also made a strong debut in 11 new and emerging skill categories this year, including Unmanned Aerial Systems, Aircraft Maintenance, Intelligent Security Technology, and Optoelectronic Technology. Furthermore, female competitors actively led the charge in fields like Chemical Laboratory Technology and Fashion Technology.
Congratulating the team on their historic success, Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, praised the youth. “Team India’s remarkable performance at WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, with 6 Silver medals and 20 Medallions for Excellence, marks a significant leap in our global skills journey. Our youth represented the country with immense confidence, perseverance, and excellence on the world stage,” he stated.
India’s participation at the global event was expertly coordinated by the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), with robust support from industry partners and training institutions.
