India Forms High-Level Committee to Investigate Alleged Conspiracy to Murder Khalistan Separatist

New Delhi: India The Indian government has formed a high-level committee to investigate the allegations of a conspiracy to murder pro-Khalistan separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu. The United States has welcomed India’s move, with Secretary of State Antony Blinken calling it a “good and appropriate” decision.

The US Justice Department filed a lawsuit last Wednesday against an Indian citizen named Nikhil Gupta, who was arrested in the Czech Republic on June 30 at the behest of the United States. Gupta is accused of conspiring to murder Pannu for one lakh dollars with an advance payment of $15, 000. Overall, an Indian government official is also involved in the plot, but the official’s name has not been disclosed.

Pannu, an American and Canadian citizen, lives in New York and has been actively involved in anti-India activities. He is designated as a terrorist in India, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been investigating him since 2019. Recently, the NIA seized control of Pannu’s properties in Punjab.

India has expressed concern over the growing number of cases involving Indian citizens accused of serious crimes in the United States. The Ministry of External Affairs has clarified that India does not condone such activities and has assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated.

The high-level committee that the Indian government has established will look into the allotted plot to murder Pannu in great detail and then submit its report. Based on the committee’s findings, the government will take further action.

The US Secretary of State has welcomed India’s decision to invest in the country and has said that the United States will await the results of the initiative. He has also emphasised that the issue should not affect the strong relationship between India and the United States.

The White House has also expressed its appreciation for India’s efforts to add to the alliances and has assured that the matter will not impact India-US relations.
