Mumbai: The BCCI has announced that India’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh—originally set for August 2025—has been pushed back to September 2026. This decision came out after a deep discussion with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Saturday. The BCCI scheduled the three ODI and three T20I series to take place in Dhaka and Chattogram from August 17–31. “The delay occurred due to the two teams’ international cricketing duties and rescheduling for a window that was convenient for both sides. The new dates of the matches will be announced soon,” the CSK’s press release adds.
Diplomatic tensions between India and Bangladesh, among other factors, had raised speculation surrounding the series for weeks. Ties between the two neighbours have been soured by the turmoil in Bangladesh since last year’s coup, reports of atrocities committed against Hindu minorities, and statements by some Bangladeshi leaders that have been perceived as anti-India. Indeed, these issues, among others, have cast doubt on the tour itself, with security being a major reason for the delay.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have agreed to postpone the white-ball series… to September 2026,” BCCI said. The two Boards reached the decision, considering the international cricket calendar and the schedules of both teams. The BCB also said it looked forward to hosting India in 2026 for what would be an eagerly awaited series.
The postponement keeps two of India’s biggest names in cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, waiting to make their returns in international cricket. Both have retired from T20I and Test cricket, only playing ODIs now. Fans who want to see them play will now have to wait until India next plays ODIs, most likely during a series against Australia in October-November 2025.
