Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has asked the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai to identify landslide prone areas in the state, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) and principal secretary, Disaster Management, Pradip Jena said on Tuesday.
Jena said the survey was necessary because of late, landslides have become one of the major natural disasters affecting the state.
“After these areas are identified, the state government will take up awareness campaigns to make local people aware of the devastating effects of landslides and advise them to take precautionary measures to save their lives and property,” Jena said. “If necessary, the people of these areas will be shifted to safer places during landslides,” he added.
