Hunger Strike or Political Stunt? Prashant Kishor Arrested During BPSC Protests!

Patna: Patna police picked up the leader of the newly formed Jan Suraj Party, Prashant Kishor, while he was yet on a fast unto death demanding that the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examination should not be held. When police arrested Kishor, they said that he was holding an unlawful assembly at Gandhi Maidan and that he would be prosecuted. He is supposed to be produced in court soon.

Kishor had been fasting for four days in prison in support of students demonstrating against allegedly unfair results on the BPSC test. His arrest happened this morning at around 4:00 am when the police used force to evacuate him from the protest scene, and his supporters offered him a strong resistance. He was shifted to a nearby AIIMS hospital for a medical examination before he was arrested.

When Kishor was at AIIMS, he refused to take treatment, saying that he would not leave his hunger strike. This led to scuffles between the police and his supporters outside the hospital, and most of them were incensed with how police arrested and brutalised them, they complained.

Before his arrest, Kishor vowed to remain on the protest till the students demands were met. He urged Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to get down to the students and address their complaints personally.

The protests owe their origin to the claims that the BPSC exam conducted on December 13, 2024, contained leaked questions, for which the exam is wanted to be cancelled. By these allegations, many students protested against the exam and since then have called for the cancellation of the exam.

Kishor’s party created an agenda to go to the High Court on January 7 over the BPSC irregularities. He stressed that they are not fighting for politics but for the future of the youth of Bihar.

The fan and members of the party Kishor continue to protest in Patna. Despite threats from the government, they continue to complain that the government should not have taken certain actions and that they will not accept the government actions for now.
