Srinagar: In a major counter-infiltration operation, the Indian Army has eliminated a notorious figure known as “Samandar Chacha” in the Gurrez sector of Jammu & Kashmir.
The individual, dubbed the “Human GPS” by security forces, was reportedly involved in facilitating over 100 cross-border infiltrations over the past three decades.
The encounter took place on August 28, when alert troops intercepted a group of terrorists attempting to infiltrate through the rugged terrain of Gurrez. Acting on intelligence inputs, the Army launched a swift operation that resulted in the killing of Samandar Chacha and another terrorist.
Samandar Chacha, believed to be active since 1955, was a key operative for Pakistan-based terror outfits. His unparalleled knowledge of the topography and infiltration routes made him an invaluable asset for guiding terrorists across the Line of Control (LoC). According to sources, he had been instrumental in navigating groups through treacherous mountain passes, often evading detection by Indian forces.
Security officials described him as a “living map” of the region, capable of leading infiltrators through even the most heavily guarded stretches. His death is considered a significant blow to the infiltration machinery operating from across the border.
The operation also yielded arms and ammunition, and further investigations are underway to identify the second slain terrorist. On August 29, the Army continued combing operations in the area to ensure no remnants of the group remained.
This successful mission underscores the Army’s heightened vigilance and strategic preparedness in curbing cross-border terrorism. Officials hailed the operation as a testament to the synergy between intelligence and ground forces.
