Imphal: Manipur is again on the boiling pot as political unrest and outcries from the mass intensify. Recently in a violence spree an angry mob hurled stones at the ancestral home of BJP MLA K .Robindro in Imphal. This comes after a spate of attacks and arson on the homes of several other legislators and ministers, thereby forcing authorities to declare indefinite curfew in several districts.
The latest disturbances began after police found the decomposing bodies of three women and three children in the Jiribam district. This news relayed and it caused uproar across the nation resulting to violent protest. On Saturday the angry mob burnt tyres, guarded political offices and assaulted three state ministers and six legislators.
In response internet services continue to be banned in six districts to prevent the spread of misinformation and fomenting the violence. The police said that the angry crowd wanted to talk to MLA Robindro, but he was not present at the time. Robindro’s father endeavoured to calm the crowd down promising to take their messages to his son.
After these happenings, Home Minister Amit Shah discussing about the situation in Manipur after coming back from Maharashtra conducted an emergent meeting cancelling his election campaigning . He ordered security bosses to put in place all possible measures to regain peace. Further, another core-strategizing session is expected to happen on Monday to seek for a longer term fix.
The politics of the violence have also therefore followed suit. The National People’s Party(NPP) supporting the N.Biren Singh government said that it will withdraw support as the crisis was not resolved and normalcy not restored. Still, this is a blow to the Biren Singh administration, even though it does not appear that it currently has to worry about its majority as National kind of withdrawal does not.
