Bengaluru: The latest is the HMPV virus that has rapidly gained ground in China and has now been reported in India, with the first case detected in Bengaluru. A baby boy aged 8 months was confirmed to have the virus after he had been taken to a private hospital because of high fever. Hospital blood tests showed that the boy had the HMPV virus; however, this has not been verified by the central health ministry.
The situation in China has worsened, and now some states have declared it an emergency as thousands of people get sick. Medical centres are congested with patients, including children and seniors, and people have to wait outside hospitals. The increased cases of the outbreak will always require the organisations to implement the use of masks, which had become a standard practice in the early time of the pandemic.
Therefore, the Indian government is in sensitive mode due to these events. There remains information provided by health authorities on HMPV and surveillance of respiratory and influenza illness. The government intends to establish new laboratories that can test for MPV cases and will monitor HMPV trends the rest of the year using the Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR.
The National Centre for Disease Control has been so commissioned to coordinate surveillance. In addition, India has sought periodic reports from the World Health Organisation due to the same.
Symptoms of HMPV Virus
The symptoms associated with HMPV are similar to those seen in COVID-19 and include:
High fever and cough
Difficulty breathing
Lung infections
Nasal congestion
Hoarseness
HMPV is sensethrough direct contact with an infected person. When health officials are trying to determine possible flus, they remind the people to be careful and inform authorities when somebody or they notice those symptoms.
This being the case, ASL gets confirmation of lethal HMPP in India; authorities are not sparing a moment in ensuring that people’s lives are protected as well as the virus does not spread any further.
