NewDelhi: Indore, the City of Madhya Pradesh, known for its clean environment, achieved another major achievement. The Ramsar Convention recognises Indore as one of the top 31 wetland cities in the world. Amongst the cities receiving prestigious recognition beside Indore stands Udaipur, which holds the title of the famous City of Lakes in Rajasthan. The city council of Indore together with Udaipur placed India at the forefront of international wetland recognition since both received this first-ever designation as wetland cities in India.
The UNESCO Ramsar Convention recognised Udaipur and Indore by listing them in the global selection of 31 wetland cities. India reached an important milestone when it accomplished the distinction of having two of its cities become the first worldwide to receive recognition as wetland cities. India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, announced his happiness regarding this achievement.
