High-Stakes Battle: Can Samajwadi Party At Last Triumph In Khair?

Aligarh: As the situation with the by-elections in nine assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh is scheduled for 13 November, the main events take place in the Khair Assembly in Aligarh. Post nominations, candidates in the major political parties are using cast based strategies to win over the electorate. However, the Samajwadi Party (SP) is yet to celebrate a victory in this constituency and therefore this by-election assumes importance to the party.

The main contenders for the Khair seat
The BSP has given its party ticket to Dr. Pehal Singh and the ASP has nominated Nitin Kumar Chotel in this parliamentary constituency. SP’s Dr. Charu Kain is a candidate nominated representing the INDIA alliance, while the BJP has also nominated Surendra Diler. Both the candidates have their focusing on caste and community to get some outcomes in favour of them.

ASP wants to mobilise Dalit voters
The ASP seen emerging as a serious contender in Khair, which is led by Chandrashekhar Azad, is trying to concentrate on the Dalit vote bank. Learnt from the previous elections, if Azad succeeds in mobilising Dalit votes, then, the chance of ASP is around the corner. BSP’s strategy to get back on the right track
Interestingly, BSP has established great momentum in this assembly and its 2022 assembly election loss comers, Dr. Pehal Singh is eying the seat. Still with the support of the BSP leader Mayawati, Singh is out on the campaign, using the slogan of “Sarvajan Hitay, Sarvajan Sukhay” meaning the happiness and welfare of all will be looked to in order to pull many voters to the polls.

With over 66000 votes, SP’s Charu Kain looks for SC and Jat votes
Standing for the SP candidate Dr Charu Kain, Das Hazariya and Kain have political heritage and SP emphasis on concentrating the SC & Jat voters. This researcher herself is a member of the SC community and her husband is a Jat, therefore, she has acquaintances in both camps. Such support for SP in this region in the last loлажsa parliamentary elections may also go a long way in helping her in the next election.

BJP Strives to Dominate he South
Ever since BJP in strength in Khair since 2012 when Anoop Valmiki obtained the seat. After the Valmiki belonging to the RLD was elected to the Lok Sabha from Hathras, the Khair seat remained vacant and now the BJP has put in the candidate Surendra Diler. Diler has the advantage of growing up in a family of business people in the area, which his father and grandfather built. The BJP has also got the backing from some of the leaders which include the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in its bid to reinforce its dominance.

Because of this the BSP, ASP, SP, and BJP have brought their resources together which makes this by-election very colourful. The BSP has traditionally considered the Dalit and the OBCs as its core voters; the ASP’s presence makes things unpredictable here. Both candidates have invested a lot of energies towards winning this election which makes it one of the most keenly observed race in Uttar Pradesh.
