Mumbai:After losing the T20 series to New Zealand 0-3, the Indian Cricket team is in troubled and analysing the future of team head coach, Gambhir and his team.Gambhir’s place, in particular, is reported to be vulnerable as the players get ready for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy tour of Australia, and some insiders mentioned that this is his last chance.
After the T20 world cup victory, Rahul Dravid bid adieu to the coach position and due to IPL performance, Gambhir replaced Dravid. But for the national team, it has been downside since he took charge with a series loss to Sri Lanka and a morale sapping home loss in the recently concluded Test series. These misadventures being said, the BCCI is considering the possibility of having separate coaches for the red-ball and the white-ball teams.
As reported by Dainik Jagran, sources in BCCI state that while Gambhir is not likely to be sacked before Australian tour, there would sure be a review in the wake of the series. If the Gambhir led Test team puts up a pathetic performance then he may lose charge of the Test team that can go to VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, who along with our present T20 team is on a tour to South Africa.
The team India faced a humiliating defeat during the Mumbai Test which was completed in three days and the Indians lost the series 3-0 . In an aftermath of this defeat, BCCI called a meeting with Captain Rohit Sharma, Gambhir, and the chief selector Ajit Agarkar to remove issues relating to the choice of pitch and resting the pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah for the final game.
At the same time, the options of working and discussing the disagreements between certain representatives of the management and the head coach Gambhir on the team list were also discussed at the meeting. Specifically, the board would like to know the team’s plan for the next tour in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, and the issues regarding replacement and leadership loom large.
While counting the days to the Australian tour of India, the Indian cricket fraternity waits to see if Gambhir can make a change or if it is time for change of captain.
