Haryana Cabinet Approves Major Reforms to Boost Farmers and Social Welfare

Chandigarh: In a significant move to uplift farmers and enhance social welfare, the Nayab Saini government in Haryana announced a series of major decisions in its cabinet meeting on Monday. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini disclosed that 21 agendas were discussed, with 20 receiving approval.

Among the notable decisions, the cabinet approved the purchase of 24 crops at Minimum Support Price (MSP), a first for any state in India. “The government aims to stabilize and increase the income of farmers,” stated CM Saini during a press conference following the meeting.

Another landmark decision was the abolition of Abiana, a water tax inherited from the British era. The government has waived Abiana dues amounting to Rs 140 crore. Additionally, any notices sent to farmers to deposit Abiana after April 1, 2024, will be retracted.

The cabinet also approved an increase in the annual income limit for the creamy layer from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh. The government’s report on backward classes has led to reservations being provided in BC-B municipalities and panchayats.

In a move to honor the sacrifices of martyrs, the CM announced job provisions for the dependents of 14 martyrs. Furthermore, Agniveers will receive a 10 percent horizontal reservation in various government jobs in Haryana, along with age relaxations and interest-free loans of up to Rs 5 lakh.

The Chief Minister’s Urban Housing Scheme will see amendments to provide relief to individuals with an income of Rs 1.8 lakh. The Rural Housing Scheme will be expanded to offer free plots to landless villagers, determined through family identity cards.

These announcements underscore the government’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of farmers and supporting social welfare initiatives across the state.
