New Delhi: As India gears up to celebrate its 78th Independence Day on Thursday, the nation’s capital, Delhi, has been transformed into a heavily fortified stronghold. With the iconic Red Fort as the focal point of the celebrations, security has been ramped up to unprecedented levels to ensure the safety of the thousands of guests expected to attend.
This year, the Red Fort has been turned into a veritable fortress, with a seven-layer security system in place. The capital is equipped with advanced anti-drone systems, and snipers are stationed to keep a vigilant watch from ground level to the skies above. For the first time, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is being utilized to enhance the security measures, providing an additional layer of protection around the historic site.
The preparations have been meticulous. The Red Fort now resembles a well-guarded camp, with around 22,000 guests anticipated to be present for the celebrations. The security agencies, including the Delhi Police and paramilitary forces, are maintaining a close watch on every road and market in the city. The goal is to create an impenetrable security perimeter around the Red Fort, where even a bird cannot breach the defenses without permission.
Inside the Fortification of the Red Fort:
- Seven-Layer Security: A comprehensive security arrangement designed to thwart any potential threats.
- Anti-Drone Systems: Approximately four advanced anti-drone systems have been strategically deployed inside the Red Fort.
- NSG Teams: National Security Guard (NSG) teams are stationed around the Red Fort to provide additional protection.
- Snipers on Rooftops: Nearly 300 rooftops in the Chandni Chowk area are under the watchful eyes of snipers.
- CCTV Surveillance: A 5-kilometer radius around the Red Fort is being monitored by CCTV cameras.
- AI-Equipped Cameras: More than 500 cameras equipped with AI technology have been installed along the VVIP route.
- Facial Recognition Technology: Cameras with Facial Recognition System (FRS) technology have been integrated into all metal detectors to quickly identify any potential threats.
Security agencies are on high alert following intelligence reports indicating possible terrorist activities, including the threat of a suicide or drone attack. In response to these inputs, the Anti-Terror Squad has been mobilized, and all anti-drone systems are fully operational.
The most significant enhancement to security this year is the introduction of AI-powered facial recognition cameras. These advanced cameras, capable of capturing the movements of any suspect within seconds, have been strategically placed along the roads surrounding the Red Fort and across its ramparts. Additionally, a large tricolor banner has been positioned at the gate facing the Red Fort, obscuring the view of the ramparts from the road.
Despite the looming threat of terrorist conspiracies, Indian security agencies and Delhi Police personnel remain resolute and determined. Their strong presence and readiness to counter any threat ensure that this year’s national festival will be celebrated with the same joy and pride as in previous years, free from any disturbances.
