New Delhi: In a windfall for budget-conscious car buyers, Maruti Suzuki has slashed prices on its popular Dzire sedan by up to ₹87,000 following the landmark GST 2.0 reforms, making the 5-star safety-rated model even more irresistible in a competitive market.
Effective September 22, the tax rejig — dropping GST to 18% on small cars under 4 meters while scrapping the compensation cess — has ignited a price war, with rivals like Honda Amaze and Tata Tigor also trimming their tags to stay in the race.
The Dzire, a segment darling for its sleek design, premium features, and Global NCAP 5-star crash rating (boasting six airbags and Electronic Stability Control), now starts at an ex-showroom ₹6.25 lakh for the LXI 1.2L 5MT base variant — a ₹58,000 dip. Mid-spec VXI 1.2L 5MT follows at ₹7.17 lakh (down ₹62,000), the ZXI 1.2L 5MT at ₹8.17 lakh (₹75,000 off), and the frugal ZXI CNG 1.2L 5MT tops out at ₹9.04 lakh (₹87,000 reduction). These cuts, ranging from 8% to 9% across variants, position Dzire as a value powerhouse against flashier foes.
Rivals aren’t sitting idle. Tata Tigor, known for its punchy turbo-petrol engine, offers up to ₹80,000 in discounts, with the base model now ₹75,000 cheaper. Tata Altroz, a premium hatch-sedan hybrid, sees a steeper ₹1.10 lakh shave. Honda Amaze, previously priced from ₹8.14 lakh to ₹11.24 lakh ex-showroom, anticipates further drops under the new slabs, enhancing its refined appeal.
This GST-driven frenzy could significantly boost sales in the sub-4m sedan segment, where consumers prioritise safety and savings, as Diwali approaches. Maruti insiders predict a 7-8% industry uptick, urging buyers to visit showrooms pronto before stocks dry up.
