New Delhi: Google has clarified that its traditional search results are not being phased out despite the growing integration of artificial intelligence into its search platform. The clarification comes amid concerns among users and publishers that AI powered search features could eventually replace the familiar list of web links that has defined internet search for decades.

The company recently introduced new AI driven search experiences, including AI Overviews and AI Mode, designed to provide users with more conversational and comprehensive answers to complex queries. These features use Google’s Gemini AI models to generate summaries, answer follow up questions and help users navigate information more efficiently.

However, Google has stressed that the introduction of AI features does not mean the end of conventional search results. According to the company, traditional web links will continue to remain an important part of the search experience. Users will still be able to access websites, articles and other online sources alongside AI generated responses.

The clarification follows speculation that users searching through AI Mode could be automatically redirected away from conventional search pages. Google has explained that AI tools are intended to complement, rather than replace, traditional search. The company says users can continue to explore original sources and websites whenever they require detailed information beyond AI generated summaries.

The debate has become particularly significant for publishers and content creators. Many media organisations and website operators have expressed concerns that AI generated answers could reduce traffic to their platforms by providing information directly within search results. Several industry studies have also examined how AI summaries may affect user behaviour and website visits.

Google maintains that AI powered search is aimed at improving user experience by helping people find information faster while still directing them to relevant sources. Company executives have stated that AI Overviews and AI Mode are designed to work alongside existing search infrastructure rather than replace it entirely.

Technology experts believe the future of search will likely involve a combination of AI generated responses and traditional web results. While AI can simplify information discovery and answer complex questions, direct access to websites remains essential for verification, deeper research and access to original content.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape the digital landscape, Google’s latest clarification is expected to reassure users and publishers that the company’s iconic search experience will continue to coexist with emerging AI driven tools rather than disappear altogether.
