Global Reactions Emerge After Iran’s Missile Attack On Israel

Washington: Tensions have escalated across the globe following Iran’s ballistic missile attack on Israel, in which over 180 missiles were launched on Tuesday. The attack, seen as a significant provocation, has prompted swift international condemnation and heightened fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has responded swiftly, putting the country on high alert, while the international community is closely watching developments. U.S. President Joe Biden condemned the attack, reaffirming Washington’s unwavering support for Israel. “Iran will pay the price for this,” Biden said, stating that the U.S. stands firmly with its ally.

U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris also condemned the attack, further emphasising the administration’s support for Israel during this crisis. However, while showing solidarity, President Biden urged caution in Israel’s response. In an emergency meeting of the G7 countries on Wednesday, Biden opposed any immediate retaliation against Iran’s nuclear sites, arguing that such an action could have catastrophic consequences not just for Iran but for the entire region.

“The United States fully supports Israel,” Biden said following the G7 meeting, which included leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and the U.S. “However, all seven countries agree that any retaliatory strike must be proportionate.” The G7 nations discussed imposing new sanctions on Iran as a potential measure to curtail further aggression.

President Biden acknowledged Israel’s right to defend itself but expressed concerns over the potential devastation that could arise from strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. He emphasised that such a move could lead to chaos across the Middle East.

In response to the missile attack, Biden also ordered the U.S. military to assist Israel’s defence systems in intercepting Iran’s missiles. Thanks to Israel’s advanced air defence system, many of the incoming missiles were neutralised mid-air, and minimal damage was reported.

As the situation develops, global leaders are calling for restraint while closely monitoring the unfolding crisis.
