New Delhi: The Israel-Hamas war has reached a new peak after a 42-day truce came to an end. Israel indiscriminately attacked Gaza with airstrikes, and more than 419 people were killed. While this was ongoing, Israel’s Ambassador to India Ronen Azar gave a clear message to Hamas that there are only two possibilities to return peace to Gaza: either comply with Israel’s terms or meet the consequences.
In an interview with NDTV World, Ambassador Azar emphasised that Israel can establish peace immediately if Hamas aligns itself with Israel’s demands. He pointed out that Israel has no other choice but to utilize military pressure, since Hamas has breached its commitment to free hostages during the ceasefire.
Israel’s demands are that Hamas must free all Israeli hostages and provide a commitment that they would not initiate future attacks against Israel. Azar emphasized that Hamas has consistently declined peace overtures, even from American intercessors, and refused to release hostages.
Azar emphasized that Hamas is not actually looking for peace but shuns negotiations by choice. He also emphasized that the United States has full backing of Israel and believes that there must be military intervention to keep Gaza peaceful and to fight against terrorism.
The Gaza crisis deepens, with Israel’s military campaign and Hamas’s obstinacy possibly exacerbating the situation. The Ambassador’s remarks are clear that Israel’s military campaign will continue unless Hamas joins in peace negotiations.
