Musk is not just thinking about Mars as the next planet, but rather a “new world” that will be reminiscent of the historical expansion of America. He aims to build a completely autonomous city on Mars in the next three decades. To initiate this grand venture, SpaceX will send its largest rocket, Starship, on a Mars-bound unmanned mission by 2026. If successful, human missions could happen in four years.
Musk’s main intention is to resettle one million people to Mars, which in turn will be a home for the future generations. He advocates the view that colonising Mars is the key to the survival of the human race and to the expansion of our species from the Earth to other planets.

The estimated price for a one-way ticket to Mars would be around $100,000, which Musk defended as not being expensive for those who are adventurous and would like to endeavour on this journey.
