Mumbai: The assassination of former Maharashtra minister and senior Ajit Pawar faction leader, Baba Siddiqui, in Mumbai’s upscale Bandra neighbourhood has sent shockwaves across the city. While two suspects have been arrested, questions loom over whether the Lawrence Bishnoi gang is targeting those close to Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
This incident comes after previous attacks on some of Khan’s associates, including Punjabi singers AP Dhillon and Gippy Grewal. In November 2023, Grewal’s bungalow in Canada was fired upon, with Bishnoi’s gang claiming responsibility in a social media post that threatened both Grewal and Salman Khan.
Earlier, in September 2024, Dhillon’s home was also targeted by the gang. A Facebook post from the gang’s operative, Rohit Godara, warned Dhillon for his alleged closeness to Khan, stating that the singer had “made a big mistake by involving Salman in his music.” Godara, based in Rajasthan’s Bikaner, has been involved in several other high-profile attacks, including the assassination of Karni Sena leader Sukhdev Singh Gogamedi.
Authorities are investigating whether Siddiqui’s murder is connected to these prior incidents, raising concerns over a broader pattern of attacks linked to the Bishnoi gang.
