New Delhi: In the aftermath of the Delhi Red Fort blast, which shook the nation, fresh revelations underscore the critical role played by a vigilant police officer known as Dr G V Sundeep Chakravarthy in foiling a major terror conspiracy involving armed terrorist doctors.

The blast was reportedly a hurried act triggered by mounting pressure after massive explosives were seized in Faridabad, triggering panic among terrorists.

On October 17, unsettling posters in Urdu appeared across the streets of Anantnag district, bearing the signature of Jaish-e-Mohammed commander Hanjla Bhai. While appearing ordinary at first glance, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr G V Sundeep Chakravarthy quickly discerned the hidden threat in these posters.

Renowned in Kashmir for his counter-terror expertise, Dr Sundeep had previously led the successful Operation Mahadev.

Under his leadership, investigations involving CCTV footage led to the identification of several suspects with prior records of stone-pelting in Kashmir. A sprawling terror network was traced back to Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh.

Following this breakthrough, key arrests included multiple Kashmiri doctors linked to the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror module. The police seized over 2,900 kilograms of explosives, bomb-making materials, and rifles. As investigations progressed after the November 10 blast, the importance of Dr Sundeep’s strategic acumen in saving countless lives became evident.

Born in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh into a family devoted to public service, Dr Sundeep is the son of Dr G V Ram Gopal Rao, a Resident Medical Officer. His mother, P C Rangamma, served as an officer in the health department. Educated at Montessori Public School, Kurnool, and Kurnool Medical College, he earned his medical degree in 2010 before joining the Indian Police Service in 2014.

Appointed as SSP Srinagar on April 21, 2025, Dr Sundeep took over a critical post overseeing volatile districts such as Anantnag, Kupwara, and Kulgam, where he successfully neutralised multiple terrorist threats.

Dr Sundeep’s philosophy revolves around the idea that even the smallest threats contain crucial intelligence. His probing of the Urdu posters led to the arrest of Maulvi Irfan Ahmad, who exposed a wider Jaish-e-Mohammed terror network. The police under Dr Sundeep seized large caches of explosives and weaponry, and operatives including doctors Mujammil, Adil Ahmad, and Dr Shaheen Saeed were arrested in a white-collar terror bust in Srinagar, Faridabad, and Uttar Pradesh.

Recognised multiple times for bravery, Dr Sundeep has been honoured six times with the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry and awarded the Jammu & Kashmir Police Medal for bravery on four occasions.

His vigilant leadership continues to be pivotal in India’s fight against terrorism.
