Mumbai: In a much-anticipated reunion, Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor and acclaimed director Vishal Bhardwaj have teamed up once again for the thriller ‘O Romeo’, following their hit ‘Haider’.
Released earlier this month, the film showcases Shahid in a gripping, intense avatar alongside rising talent Tripti Dimri, whose on-screen chemistry has been a talking point. Industry insiders hail the Kapoor-Bhardwaj partnership as a powerhouse, often delivering performances that resonate deeply with audiences.
However, the story unfolds differently at the box office. After 14 days in theatres, ‘O Romeo’ has amassed a worldwide collection of ₹100 crore, with India’s net earnings at ₹61.55 crore and gross at approximately ₹73 crore. Despite a decent opening buzz, collections have dipped steadily, averaging around ₹1.50 crore daily recently. With no significant competitors in sight, the lack of upward momentum raises concerns.
Made on a reported budget of ₹150 crore, the film is teetering on the edge of flop territory.
Analysts point out that recovering the remaining ₹50 crore seems daunting, even with two more weeks to go. The initial hype around Shahid’s transformation and the fresh pairing with Tripti have faded, leaving fans wondering if this Romeo will find his happily ever after at the ticket counters.
While the duo’s past magic sparked hope, ‘O Romeo’ underscores the unpredictable nature of Bollywood economics.
