New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday inaugurated the Doorstep Banking Services by public sector banks (PSBs) at a ceremony to felicitate best-performing banks based on EASE Banking Reforms Index.
The aim of Doorstep Banking Services is to bring banking services to the doorstep of customers through universal touch points of Call Centre, Web Portal or Mobile App. Customers can also track their service request through these channels.
The services will be rendered by the Doorstep Banking Agents to be deployed by selected service providers at 100 centres across the country.
At present, only non-financial services – pick-up of negotiable instruments (cheque/demand draft/pay order etc.), new cheque book requisition slip, 15G/15H forms, IT/GST challan, issue request for standing instructions, request for account statement, delivery of non-personalised cheque book, delivery of term deposit receipt, delivery of TDS/Form 16 certificate, delivery of pre-paid instrument/ gift card — are available to customers.
Come October 2020, financial services will be made available.
Customers of PSBs can avail of these services at nominal charges. These will benefit all customers, especially senior citizens and divyangs for whom visiting banks is not always possible.
Top Banks Felicitated
Bank of Baroda, State Bank of India and erstwhile Oriental Bank of Commerce were felicitated for being the ‘Top Performing Banks’ according to the EASE 2.0 Index Results.
Bank of Maharashtra, Central Bank of India and erstwhile Corporation Bank were adjudged ‘Top Improvers’, while Punjab National Bank, Union Bank of India and Canara Bank were also recognized for outstanding performance in select themes.
