Jammu: The incident of violence in West Bengal over the Waqf Amendment Bill has recently been a hot topic of discussion. This is especially as the BJP has lashed out at the Mamata Banerjee-led state government consistently. Amid all this, National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah has slammed the central government, alleging that it has created hatred in Muslims against Hindus and vice versa and then they unleash mass violence on them. The real people posing a threat to our motherland are those who spread hate under the disguise of religion in our own country. He added that Pakistan and China cannot harm us like these people.
Speaking to reporters in Mandi in Jammu on Sunday (April 20), Abdullah said communal hatred is making the country weak. The recent violence in West Bengal is the fallout of the rising Hindu-Muslim divide in the country, he noted. He referred to the “bulldozing of structures, destruction of mosques, and demolition of houses” from Muslims and asked what offences these people had committed.
Farooq Abdullah also referred to the Supreme Court order to stop bulldozer actions and said they were still carried out. “As most of you were unable to oppose it to other activists of (the) Molla Noori,” he said, questioning whether the law is reserved for particular individuals, while blaming the violence as part of a conspiracy to polarise the country on religious lines.
In the meantime, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee requested people to maintain peace through an open letter on Saturday. She also alleged that the BJP and RSS were using the tragic incident to divisively politicize.
