Mumbai: Anil Kapoor is back as Mr India, 36 years after Shekhar Kapur’s film released and turned out to be a superhit.
Is Anil, who played an invisible superhero, set to feature in a sequel of the iconic movie?
As it turns out, Anil’s latest avatar as Mr India is for a Google Pixel commercial. He looks the same as in that film, which also starred Sridevi, Satish Kaushik, Annu Kapoor and Amrish Puri.
Anil took to his Instagram handle on Saturday to share the video of the ad which shows an associate of Arun Verma (Anil’s character in Mr India) named Jugal sneaking into a haunted mansion and bumping into an ornate vase, which is about to come crashing down on to the floor. Suddenly, it starts floating in the air before being placed back in the spot where it fell from. Anil then emerges as Arun Verma (Mr India), the famous character with the power of remaining invisible thanks to a special bracelet, as the theme of the 36-year-old film plays in the background.
Arun and Jugal then discover the Google Pixel smartphone, and Anil’s voiceover explains the its features. ‘To be continued’ appears at the end of the commercial.
“The beauty of time, the thing that makes it so precious, is that it never stands still. Our lives are full of highs and lows, appearances and disappearances… Mr India is a phenomenon that even time could not erase, at once a ghost and the most real person I have ever played. And now, 38 years later, Mr India is back with the Google #Pixel8! In flesh and unfiltered, just the time-tested and timeless soul of Arun Verma reappearing to entertain and thrill you. So watch this screen carefully because this superhero has been known to disappear at the drop of his hat,” Anil wrote on Instagram.

Even though it’s only an ad, fans want Anil to star in a sequel.
“How in this earth is it freaking possible that this man is still looking the same even after almost 35 years, since this film was released?” wrote one user.
“Mr India’s sequel should have come out already. Even this recreation in a mobile phone ad gave me goosebumps,” reacted another person.
“Just make the sequel already!” demanded commented netizen.
Anil’s elder brother and Mr India producer Boney Kapoor stoked speculation by hinting at a sequel.
“Work in progress for a big screen appearance. #MrIndia #MrIndia2 @AnilKapoor,” Boney wrote along with the video of the commercial.
Mr Idia director Shekhar also took to X and shared the video with the caption, “So #MrIndia decided to be invisible for the last 30 years and now suddenly re-emerged! How come he looks the same? Maybe the bracelet doesn’t just give you power of invisibility, but also eternal youth!”
