Emergency At Melbourne Airport: Passengers Evacuated From Etihad Flight

Melbourne: Melbourne Airport announced that an Etihad Airways flight destined for Abu Dhabi had to return to the gate after two tyres blew up a short time before the aeroplane was to take off. The flight number of the incident was EY 461 and had 289 passengers on board and due to incident they had to rush the emergency services.

As reported by The Times of India the Boeing 787 was about to take off when some problems cropped up and the process was aborted. The fire and rescue services cordoned around the aircraft and used protective foam on the trucks on the landing gear.

Thankfully, everyone without exception was evacuated from the plane and guided back to the terminal safely without a single injury. The event affected airport operations momentarily compromising other subsequent flights by shutting down one of the runways for towing and maintenance.

From Etihad Airways, the acting chief operational officer said that the flight crew refused to take off for safety reasons. ‘It even taxied to a halt on the runway, and despite the fact that there were no passengers on board it was boarded by the emergency services,’ they said. The airline apologised and noted that every effort is made to ensure that passengers’ safety comes first.

A news source from Melbourne Airport affirmed that upkeep was being performed concurrently as services proceeded with only one working strip capable. They added that because of the damage arising from the burst tyre, the aircraft could not be cleared off the runway but repair was in progress.

This occurrence lets understand that safety measures are critically important while organising the flight: passengers need to be safe in any unexpected situations.
