New Delhi: Grok, an AI chatbot from Elon Musk, has stirred controversy with his answers on social media platform X, and the Indian government has requested clarification from X about the interactions, which have been making itself uneasy with his frank and sometimes provocative responses. Grok has come under challenging interrogation from users who have even brought questions of politics and opposition, and the chatbot has been answering questions that are grabbing headlines.
Grok, like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, utilises a large language model (LLM) to communicate with users in their native language. Able to process and run intricate queries, it brought to use with X for analyzing trend data. But, the political content is often bolder than it should be.
The Indian government is seeking clarification amid widespread concerns about the use of AI tools to create misinformation or controversy. Grok may run into challenges with regulatory compliance, with the DPDP Act 2023 and IT Act, both regulations that are part of India’s data protection laws. The road for the chatbot, however, could be decidedly more convoluted within India — it will have to make room for both well–established players, like ChatGPT and Gemini.
