New Delhi: The use of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph in hoardings highlighting Central government schemes violates the model code of conduct, an official of West Bengal state election commission has said.
All petrol pump dealers and other agencies have been asked by the Election Commission of India (ECI).to remove such hoardings displaying Modi’s pictures from the premises of those facilities within 72 hours, The Indian Express reported.
A Trinamool Congress (TMC) delegation had earlier met ECI officials and complained about Modi’s photographs being prominently displayed in hoardings informing the public of several Union government schemes.
TMC also brought to ECI’s notice that COVID vaccination certificates are being issued with Modi’s picture on them.
The model code of conduct came into effect on February 26, soon after the ECI announced dates for assembly elections in West Bengal, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.
