New Delhi: Dismissing widespread rumors circulating across social media platforms, a comprehensive scientific report and official government clarifications have confirmed that E20 petrol does not cause any harm to vehicle engines. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, actively supported by major automobile manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki and Toyota, has firmly stated that ethanol blended fuel is entirely safe for daily use. Officials stressed that all viral claims regarding mechanical damage are completely baseless and scientifically inaccurate.
The nationwide controversy started when several digital content creators posted viral videos falsely claiming that twenty percent ethanol blended petrol causes severe tank rusting, degrades internal rubber components, and permanently seizes older vehicle engines. Addressing the growing public panic, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari categorically rejected these allegations. He openly challenged critics to present actual proof of engine damage caused solely by the new fuel. His strong stance recently received solid scientific validation from a detailed study conducted by the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, which found absolutely no evidence that E20 fuel harms existing or older vehicle engines.
Government authorities further explained that the national transition toward E20 fuel was not an overnight decision. The green fuel policy was carefully implemented after years of extensive laboratory testing, strict field validation, and deep consultations with top automotive research bodies. Experts pointed out a highly practical fact to counter the fake news. They noted that if the green fuel actually destroyed fuel lines or engine parts, service centers across the country would have been flooded with millions of warranty claims by now, which has simply not happened.
While officials acknowledged a minor three to five percent drop in overall vehicle mileage depending on heavy traffic and local driving conditions, they heavily emphasized the broader long term benefits. E20 fuel provides better engine performance due to much higher octane levels and significantly reduces dangerous vehicular pollution. The massive ethanol blending program has also helped the country save nearly two lakh crore rupees in foreign exchange by drastically reducing crude oil imports, while directly boosting the financial income of Indian farmers.
Automobile experts and government representatives have strongly urged all vehicle owners to rely exclusively on official company manuals and verified technical guidelines. Citizens are advised to ignore unverified digital campaigns designed purely to spread unnecessary fear and confusion regarding the national clean energy initiative.
