Mumbai: As Dussehra approaches, the spotlight turns to actors who have brought the iconic villain Ravana to life on screen, captivating audiences with their portrayals. From legendary performances to controversial renditions, these stars have left an indelible mark.
Arvind Trivedi continues to set the standard for portraying Ravana in Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan. His commanding presence and nuanced acting made him a household name, earning him a special place in fans’ hearts. Sadly, Trivedi passed away in October 2021, but his legacy endures.
Akhilendra Mishra, in the 2008 Ramayan, won praise for his powerful expressions and booming voice, breathing life into the demon king. Tarun Khanna, known for versatile roles like Lord Shiva, also impressed as Ravana, showcasing his range in mythological dramas.
Saif Ali Khan’s modern take on Ravana in Adipurush sparked controversy. His unconventional look — complete with a stylish haircut and beard — drew criticism, with fans rejecting the contemporary spin on the classic character.
Similarly, Paras Chhabra’s dramatic portrayal in Vighnaharta Ganesh faced scrutiny but still earned him attention.
Nikitin Dheer, however, shone in 2024’s Shrimad Ramayan. His meticulous approach and bulky physique, paired with intense acting, won over audiences. Other notable names like Arya Babbar, Shaleen Bhanot, and Puneet Issar have also embodied Ravana, each adding their unique flair.
As Dussehra celebrations highlight the triumph of good over evil, these onscreen Ravanas continue to spark discussions, proving the timeless allure of this complex character.
