Chandigarh: With the dates for the Haryana Assembly elections 2024 officially announced, political parties are gearing up for what promises to be a closely contested battle. The state, which has 90 Assembly seats, will see voting in a single phase on 1 October, with results to be declared on 4 October.
Amidst the political preparations, Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Haryana, Dushyant Chautala, made a decisive statement by ruling out any possibility of allying with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming elections. Chautala asserted that his party remains strong and independent, dismissing any speculation of a tie-up with the BJP.
Addressing his supporters, Chautala said, “I assure you in writing that I will not join the Bharatiya Janata Party.” When questioned about his party’s defeat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where the JJP failed to win a single seat and secured only 0.87 percent of the vote share, Chautala remained optimistic. He stated, “I don’t take it as a crisis; I take it as an opportunity. Our party was the kingmaker last time, and in the coming time, you will see that JJP will be the most important party for Haryana.”
Chautala also took the opportunity to target Congress leader and former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, suggesting that Hooda was responsible for the corruption in the state. He sarcastically remarked, “We should thank Hooda for the colonisation that is taking place today.”
When asked about the possibility of joining the ‘INDIA’ alliance, Chautala responded cautiously, stating that his party would consider joining if it was given the “right status” within the alliance. Reflecting on his past experience with the NDA, he acknowledged his party’s steadfast support during challenging times, including issues related to farmers and wrestlers, but he emphasised that respect and assurance are essential in any political partnership.
