New Delhi: With the Central government moving towards making Aadhaar card the principal identity for Indians, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to roll out door-to-door Aadhaar Sewa soon.
UIDAI, the body responsible for rolling out the 12-digit unique Aadhaar number, is training as many as 48,000 postmen of India Post Payment Bank (IPPB). They will travel across the country, including remotest areas, and go door to door to help link Aadhaar number with mobile number, update details and enrol children.
The training is part of UIDAI’s expansion plans to reach out to more people and enrol as many citizens as possible. According to a senior government official, UIDAI plans to cover 150,000 postal officers in the second phase of the plan, The Economic Times reported.
Besides IPPB postmen, UIDAI will bring on board 13,000 banking correspondents currently working with Common Service Centres of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
