NewDelhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Delhi Police of preventing the screening of a documentary about former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, sparking a political row in the Indian capital. The film, which was set to be screened at noon on Saturday at Pyarelal Bhawan, was cancelled at the eleventh hour.
It was said that the documentary talks about AAP’s journey during Kejriwal’s imprisonment and after his release. Police intervention into the AAP function, according to AAP officials, was politically motivated, stemming from the Bharatiya Janata Party (commonly called the BJP for short).
In a statement, the AAP expressed their disappointment: It is with regret that we inform you that our documentary has been refused screening permission by the Delhi Police.”We’re sorry, but we have to cancel it, but we will reschedule and release it no matter what. We will keep you updated. “Sorry for the inconvenience.”
However, the Delhi Police denied the allegations, saying that the program was not allowed on procedural grounds. “Political parties have to apply for permission through the single window system at the District Election Officer’s (DEO) office as polls have been announced,” a police spokesperson said. This is normal procedure during an election. Such permission was not sought for this event, violating guidelines. At this time, we urge all parties to comply with the rules and regulations of the elections.”
The AAP has accused the BJP of trying to suppress information and malign their name in the election season, as this incident amplified the already polarised political environment in Delhi. The party claims the documentary is intended to reveal the truth about recent political events.
Both sides are sticking to their positions, but as the controversy unfolds, AAP is adamant it will release the documentary despite the setback, while the police remain firm about procedural compliance during the election period.
