New Delhi: In a major push towards clean energy and pollution control, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the official Electric Vehicle Subsidy Portal on Friday. This digital platform allows residents to apply for purchase incentives under the newly notified Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026, ensuring that approved subsidies reach their bank accounts within a maximum of sixty days.

The newly introduced portal has been designed to make the claiming process completely paperless and transparent. Buyers of eligible electric vehicles can now submit their claims from the comfort of their homes within thirty days of receiving their Registration Certificate. Officials confirmed that applicants can track their requests in real time. Once the digital verification of essential documents like Aadhaar, Voter ID, and bank details is complete, the financial incentive will be transferred directly to the beneficiary through an Aadhaar authenticated Direct Benefit Transfer.

Speaking at the launch event at the Delhi Secretariat, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that the comprehensive policy addresses vehicular emissions, which contribute significantly to the pollution levels in the national capital. Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh and Transport Commissioner Niharika Rai were also present at the launch, emphasizing the commitment of the government to providing a hassle free experience for electric vehicle buyers.

The Delhi Electric Vehicle Policy 2026 brings substantial financial relief across various categories. Buyers purchasing electric two wheelers will receive a subsidy of up to thirty thousand rupees, while electric three wheelers will attract an incentive of fifty thousand rupees. For light commercial vehicles in the specific category, the subsidy goes up to one lakh rupees. Furthermore, all electric cars priced below thirty lakh rupees have been fully exempted from road tax and registration fees. The government is also offering an additional scrapping incentive of up to ten thousand rupees to those replacing their old combustion engine vehicles with new electric ones.

Looking ahead, the government has set ambitious targets to build a robust support system for electric mobility. The capital plans to expand its public charging infrastructure from the current nine thousand points to over thirty two thousand points by the year 2030. In a bold regulatory move, only new electric auto rickshaws will be registered in Delhi starting January 2027, followed by a phased halt on the registration of new petrol and compressed natural gas two wheelers from April 2028.
