Delhi HC Grants Additional Lawyer Meetings to CM Kejriwal Amid Health Concerns and Political Tensions

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal received a significant reprieve from the Delhi High Court, which permitted him to meet his lawyers twice more per week via video conferencing. Previously, Kejriwal was allowed to consult with his legal team only twice a week, according to standard jail regulations.

The court’s decision came after Kejriwal’s lawyer highlighted the need for additional consultations due to over 30 ongoing legal cases against the Chief Minister. This permission is crucial for Kejriwal’s legal defense, particularly given the complexity and number of the cases involved.

Kejriwal has been embroiled in legal troubles since March 21, when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him in connection with a money laundering case linked to the alleged excise policy scam. Although the Supreme Court has granted him bail, he remains in custody at Tihar Jail in a separate case related to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Chief Minister’s health has become a focal point of political debate in Delhi, with allegations and concerns intensifying.

On July 30, the India Alliance is set to hold a rally at Jantar Mantar, where the issue of Kejriwal’s deteriorating health in Tihar Jail will be prominently discussed. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of orchestrating a conspiracy to endanger Kejriwal’s life while in custody. AAP leaders cited medical reports indicating that Kejriwal’s blood sugar levels dropped 26 times between June 3 and July 7, sparking fears for his well-being.

Recently, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, Vinai Kumar Saxena, wrote a letter expressing concerns about Kejriwal’s health. The letter stated that Kejriwal was not adhering to the recommended diet plan and was deliberately consuming fewer calories, leading to weight loss. This prompted a strong response from AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who accused the BJP and the LG’s office of “playing with the CM’s life in jail” and conspiring to harm him.

As the political climate in Delhi becomes increasingly charged, the health and legal battles of Chief Minister Kejriwal remain at the forefront of public and political discourse. The recent court decision, while a legal relief, adds another layer to the ongoing saga surrounding one of India’s most prominent political figures.
