New Delhi: Delhi Police have registered an FIR over the alleged unauthorised circulation of former Army Chief General (Retd) M M Naravane’s unpublished book, ‘Four Stars of Destiny’, on social media platforms and online forums.
In an official statement released on Monday, police revealed that reports surfaced claiming preprint copies of the book were being shared without mandatory approvals. Authorities noted that no permissions from competent bodies had been obtained for its publication yet. Verification uncovered a typeset PDF version of the book available on certain websites, purportedly prepared by Penguin Random House India Private Limited. Additionally, e-commerce sites displayed the final cover as if it were up for sale.
The case has been lodged with the Special Cell for probing potential leaks or violations linked to the unapproved manuscript. Investigators are delving into how and through which channels this material entered the public domain.
The matter has taken a political turn. Last week, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was spotted waving an alleged copy of the book on Parliament premises, triggering an uproar that disrupted Lok Sabha proceedings. This led to the suspension of eight MPs for the remainder of the budget session.
On Monday, Gandhi claimed Prime Minister Narendra Modi skipped responding to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s Address in Lok Sabha, fearing questions on Naravane’s book. “The PM is scared of the issues raised by this memoir,” Gandhi alleged, accusing Modi of evading accountability.
Police continue their inquiry amid rising tensions.
