New Delhi: Congress spokesperson Surendra Rajput on Wednesday (September 11, 2024) fiercely criticised the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a heated debate on ABP News. The discussion centred around the alleged meeting between Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and US Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, which took place during Gandhi’s recent visit to the United States.
Responding to criticism over the meeting, Rajput accused the Modi government of being “weak and cowardly,” challenging the government’s response to the controversy. “If Rahul Gandhi and Ilhan Omar met, what is the central government doing about it?” Rajput questioned, hinting at a perceived lack of action from the ruling party.
“A Weak Government,” Claims Congress
During the debate, Rajput launched a scathing attack, saying, “Why did the Modi government not take action against Ilhan Omar in 2022? Was Rahul Gandhi there then? When Modi needs it, people like Gurpatwant Singh Pannu appear. If your government is so cowardly and ineffective that you can’t handle a situation like this, you should be ashamed.”
He went on to accuse the BJP government of protecting anti-nationals like Gurpatwant Singh Pannu and reiterated his claim that the current administration lacks a clear foreign policy. “When MPs are meeting the Leader of the Opposition, what exactly is the Indian government doing?” he added.
Journalist Fires Back at Congress Defence
During the debate, the TV journalist challenged Rajput, questioning whether Rahul Gandhi should be held accountable for his actions and associations. “Sir, will the Leader of the Opposition act according to his own conscience, or will he simply be introduced to anti-national people without knowing who they are?” she asked with a mix of surprise and sarcasm.
Rahul Gandhi’s recent trip to the US, during which a photograph surfaced of him with Ilhan Omar, has drawn criticism from the BJP. Ilhan Omar is often viewed as a controversial figure due to her outspoken positions on several global issues. In response to the controversy, Congress quickly dismissed the criticism. Congress leader Pawan Khera suggested that if the BJP government had any concerns, they should summon the US ambassador and take appropriate action.
