New Delhi: Like the recent #BlackLivesMatter movement in America, Indians trended #DalitLivesMatter to highlight the caste-based oppression and discrimination in the country.
After the Delhi Police banned large gatherings around India Gate, Actor Swara Bhasker took to Twitter to inform about the change in venue of the peaceful protest, which will now be held at Jantar Mantar. The gathering is organized to demand justice for Hathras girl and protest against sexual violence and caste atrocities.

Meanwhile, Bhim Army Chief Chandra Shekhar Aazad has vowed to go to India Gate at 5 pm to demand answers from the PM on Hathras.
#BharatAtIndiaGate pic.twitter.com/COqKh0DyCM

Netizens are using #DalitLivesMatter and #WomenLivesMatter to demand justice and draw attention to the recent gangrape and death of a 19-year-old Dalit girl in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, whose body was allegedly burnt in the dead of the night by the local police without her family’s permission. Several caste-based atrocities and sexual violence cases in UP and other states have been reported since Hathras brutality.
Protests on Gandhi Jayanti assume significance as Mahatma Gandhi was among the first few who raised the issue of caste oppression and worked for uplifting the so-called lower castes.
