New Delhi: People were terrified in Rohini’s Prashant Vihar on Sunday morning, when an explosion was reported near the wall of a CRPF school. An explosion was followed by a plume of smoke, to which shortly after the local firefighters reacted. The police, and the forensic department arrived at the area to determine the cause of the explosion.
According to the Delhi Police, the explosion occurred at approximately 7:40 am near the wall of the CRPF School in Sector 14, Rohini having about 8000 sq.mt of covered area. The police received the first call at 7:47 am, loud explosion in the vicinity according to the callers. What the police noticed on arrival of the scene was that there was a broken school wall, and the air was stale.
Special Forces, Forensic and Bomb disposal teams on the scene
There are still searches going on and forensic scientists are scouring the scene with the help of bomb squads. The police said that they found white powder at the place and have filed a case under the Explosive Substances Act. The Additional Commissioner of Police Pramod Kushwaha is also on the location and more than 150 policemen including Special Cell police personnel are part of the operations.
The surrounding zone near the site of explosion is currently restricted and the Fire Brigade is also on site to avoid more desperate measures. Fortunately, there has been no loss of lives in the occurrence of the accident.
Glass Broken in Neighbouring Stores and Automobiles
According to witnesses, the blast was so strong that it broke windows of stores and cars. People were sleeping in their homes by the time of the blast and many woke up in a rush. The police complained to the public that all measures were being taken and stressed that the work was being done as fast as possible.
Following the recovery of the bodies from the scene, police officials of the crime branch and the forensic experts are still searching the area. One has to note that the definitive cause for the explosion has not been identified; official are investigating the possibility of the incident being purposively orchestrated.
It has sparked some emotions in this region yet there are no fatalities or other drastic damage such as shattered windshields and other related losses. The police have cordoned the place off and are still trying to determine what led to the explosion.
