Crisis Conference: Modi and Jaishankar Address Bangladesh Coup

New Delhi: In the wake of a coup in Bangladesh, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a crucial meeting to discuss the unfolding situation. The meeting took place in the Prime Minister’s Office in Parliament House while Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina remains at Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad.

Sources indicate that Jaishankar briefed PM Modi on the current state of affairs in Bangladesh. Speculation is rife that Sheikh Hasina may not stay in India and could instead leave for Europe. Hasina has not sought political asylum in India, and her aircraft remains stationed at Hindon Airbase.

Sheikh Hasina’s next move is yet to be decided, and she has not requested assistance from India. The Indian government is on high alert regarding the situation in Bangladesh, with special alerts issued in the northeastern states.

Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi met with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar in Parliament to inquire about the Bangladesh crisis. Sources suggest that the Congress party will refrain from making any statements until the government provides an official update. Gandhi discussed the matter with senior leaders, deciding to await the government’s official stance.

In a related development, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval met with Sheikh Hasina at Hindon Airbase following the Modi-Jaishankar meeting. Despite the ongoing crisis, Hasina has not yet sought help from India.
