COVID Nightmare: India Records Highest Daily Cases & Deaths

New Delhi: India on Thursday reported the highest single-day fatality due to COVID-19 with 3,980 people succumbing in the last 24 hours. The new deaths pushed the total toll in the country to 230,168.

The country also set a grim record of daily COVID-19 numbers with 412,262 new infections reported since Wednesday.

The top five states which have registered maximum cases are Maharashtra (57,640), followed by Karnataka (50,112), Kerala (41,953), Uttar Pradesh (31,111) and Tamil Nadu (23,310).

Maharashtra also reported the maximum daily casualties with 920 deaths, followed by Uttar Pradesh (353).

Meanwhile, Odisha, West Bengal, Assam, Bihar and Jharkhand have seen a rise in the number of daily cases and mortality indicating that the “pandemic is moving eastwards”, the Union Health Ministry said after a review meeting on Wednesday.
