COVID Death Compensation: How To Claim Rs 50K And How Long Will It Take?

New Delhi: While submitting before the Supreme Court that the kin of those who died of COVID-19 will get a compensation of Rs 50,000 from state governments, the Centre laid down guidelines on how to apply and how long it will take to get the money.

In its affidavit, the government stated that the ex-gratia assistance will be provided by the states from State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) and disbursed through the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

Those seeking the compensation will have to submit a claim form with required documents. The claim form will be issued by the state authorities.

DDMA officials will have to ensure that the entire claim process — verification, sanction and disbursal — is people-friendly.

The government further said that all claims must be settled within 30 days of submission of the required documents.

The money will be disbursed through the Aadhaar-linked direct benefit transfer procedures.

India has so far registered nearly 4.5 lakh — 4,45,768 to be precise — COVID-19 deaths.
