New Delhi: An addition of 45,750 positive cases in the last 24 hours took India’s COVID-19 tally past the 12 lakh mark to 12,38,635 on Thursday.
This was for the first time since the COVID-19 outbreak that India recorded a single-day surge of over 45,000 cases.
A total of 1,129 people in the country succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours that took the death toll to 29,861, the Union Health Ministry informed.
On a positive note, the discharge of 28,472 COVID-19 patients on Wednesday marked the highest number of recoveries in a single day in the country. Besides, the number of recovered cases (7,82,606) have surpassed active cases by 3,56,439.
The country’s recovery rate has improved to 63.18 per cent. Meanwhile, the fatality rate of cases has fallen to 2.41 per cent.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), 1,50,75,369 COVID-19 samples have been tested so far, including 3,50,823 on Wednesday.
