Controversy Erupts Over Tamil Nadu Minister’s Remarks on Lord Ram’s Existence

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin’s Transport Minister, S S Sivasankar, has sparked controversy with his remarks questioning the historical existence of Lord Ram. The DMK leader’s statement has drawn sharp criticism from religious groups and political leaders, igniting a heated debate across the state.

During a recent program, Minister Sivasankar asserted that there is no historical evidence to confirm the existence of Lord Ram. “There are no records that prove the existence of Lord Rama,” he said, a statement that has since been widely circulated and condemned.

The Sant Samaj, a collective of Hindu religious leaders, expressed their displeasure with the minister’s comments. Patalpuri President Mahant Balak Das voiced his strong opposition, stating, “These ministers neither know history nor geography, nor do they have any religious knowledge. They speak without thought, driven by political motives. The ignorance displayed by these people has reached its peak. May God grant them better sense.”

Mahant Balak Das further criticized the minister’s selective commentary, challenging him to make similar statements about other religious figures. “If they have the courage, let them speak about Muslims and Maulvis. They won’t, because they know a Hindu is peaceful and non-violent. This attitude is exploited,” he added, suggesting that the government should take strict action against those making such statements.

The minister’s controversial remarks have led to significant political and social uproar. Many have called for action against Sivasankar, arguing that such statements undermine religious sentiments and historical beliefs. The DMK leader’s comments have sparked a wider debate on religious tolerance and the responsibilities of public officials in addressing sensitive topics.

As the controversy unfolds, it remains to be seen how the Tamil Nadu government and the DMK will respond to the growing calls for accountability and respect for religious beliefs.
